Resource Development & Special Events Internship (Unpaid) – Multiple Positions
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area is proud to announce the availability of an exciting internship with the Austin, Texas office. The unpaid internship can provide school credit and offers valuable experience in the non-profit and event planning industries.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a career in event planning, corporate sponsorships, resource development, special events and communications field. Candidate must be energetic, self-motivated, a team player, results-oriented, pay attention to detail and be dedicated to the achievement of personal and team goals. This internship requires a candidate with confidence in interpersonal communication, solid writing skills, attention to detail and a passion for making a difference in the lives of the youth of Austin.
The role of an intern will be to support the Resource Development team in planning, organizing and executing fundraising activities, special events and community engagements. Multiple positions are available. Interns are required to work at least 10 hours a week.
The specific responsibilities of the intern include, but not limited to, the following:
Help plan and implement fundraising activities;
Writing and sending recognition and appreciation communications to donors;
Managing mailboxes and responding to inquiries;
Contact vendors and businesses to request bids for events and activities;
Contact local businesses for support – in-kind, sponsorships, third party events, gifts;
Maintain and update database, spreadsheets tracking all donations, expenses and vendors;
Assist with volunteer recruitment and management (includes attending event);
Attend committee meetings, record notes, send notes in follow-up emails;
Attend promotional events as necessary- occasional night or weekend hours;
Contacting and visiting local vendors and business to pick up contributions.
Desired Skills and Experience
Students who currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student may apply. So can non-traditional students, retired personnel or individuals looking to enhance or change careers;
Solid writing and interpersonal communication skills;
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, internet and e-mail;
Basic design skills (flyers/handouts, etc) are desirable;
Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously;
Attention to detail;
Problem solving skills and personal accountability;
Must be a team player, able to function within a dynamic environment;
Must have an automobile and ability to lift up to 35 lbs.;
Must pass criminal background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position may involve lifting, (up to 10 lbs.), bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping. This position may work around youth and adults with a moderate exposure to noise. This position will work indoors.
