The successful candidate will support the development of extrusion tooling made via additive manufacturing processes (3D printing), including SLA (sterolithography), FDM (fluid deposition modeling) and DMLS (direct metal laser sintering). In addition to interfacing with the 3D printing engineers on tooling design and fabrication, the Polymer Process Engineering Intern will work with our process engineering team to carry out extrusion trials with 3D printed tooling, and monitor results with comparison to standard machined tools.

The successful candidate should be familiar with basic extrusion and die design principles, and have a working knowledge of polymer materials science. Specific duties may include working with other engineers to design and fabricate dies for extrusion, carrying out extrusions using these dies, and modifying dies as necessary to achieve target dimensions. In addition, the intern will be responsible for test and measurement of extruded profiles, and monitoring of wear for different die materials. The intern should be working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Sciences (or similar) from a 4-year accredited university.
