Job Summary

This Mechanical or Electrical Engineering internship is specifically for a student who will be starting his/her sophomore or junior year in the fall of 2017. Dominion offers other engineering internships that specifically target other school year classifications, but this particular opportunity is for students with an anticipated graduation date of May 2019 or May 2020 only.

The Dominion Generation business unit seeks a highly-motivated individual for an Engineering Intern position at the Warren County Power Station. Warren County Power Station is a new 1,300-megawatt natural gas-fired combined cycle plant located near Front Royal, Virginia. Designed to be highly efficient with installed best available environmental control technologies, the station helps meet the growing demand for electricity from the company's 2.4 million customers. Located in the Shenandoah Valley, Warren County is home to the beautiful Shenandoah River, and is regarded as the "canoe capital" of Virginia.

The intern hired for this job should expect to learn overall combined cycle station equipment and process flows and specific knowledge needed for projects assigned. The intern will leave this position with valuable skills and industry knowledge which will be a great addition to one’s resume. The successful candidate must be willing to work in an industrial environment, with approximately 50% of their time spent performing field work.

The intern will:

  • Study and learn overall station equipment and processes

  • Investigate and solve equipment issues

  • Electrical equipment and control system analysis

  • Develop or support processes or programs for equipment reliability and safety

  • Heat rate and efficiency monitoring and improvements

  • Write or review procedures, as applicable

  • Process documentation

  • Equipment or material inspection and quality control

  • Cost analysis, if applicable

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Must currently be enrolled in a 4 year ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering programorpursuing an Associates in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or other acceptable degree) wherein that community college has a formal transfer agreement with a 4-year institution that grants accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Must have an anticipated graduation date of May 2019 or May 2020.

  • Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

  • Must have a valid state driver's license.

  • Prior industrial or technical experience is preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Must currently be enrolled in a 4 year ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering programorpursuing an Associates in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or other acceptable degree) wherein that community college has a formal transfer agreement with a 4-year institution that grants accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
