The selectee for this position will serve as a STUDENT TRAINEE (PLUMBER) in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.
The selectee for this position will serve as a Pathways Student Trainee Position (Plumber, WG02) located in the following locations: Norfolk, Virginia; Little Creek, Virginia; Newport, Rhode Island; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania within the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic (NAVFAC MIDLANT). This is a developmental position with promotion potential to WG-09. The purpose of this position is to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the full performance level of the target trade through a formal Apprenticeship.
The salary range for positions filled in Norfolk, VA, is $13.93 to $16.25. The salary range for positions filled in Little Creek, VA, is $13.93 to $16.25. The salary range for positions filled in Newport, RI, is $13.63 to $15.87. The salary range for positions filled in Philadelphia, PA, is $17.22 to $20.08.

WG-02 (first year) Assigned to a journey worker who works with and instruct the apprentice in performing duties common to the trade in a safe, efficient manner. Detailed instructions are provided on new assignments along with close supervision and detailed review.
Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate lifting up to 40 pounds is required. If a heavier lift is required, it must not be attempted without assistance. Must be able to work at a rapid pace for a short period of time. Occasionally required to perform work be stooping, bending, and reaching while in cramped and uncomfortable positions and by walking, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds to perform work at various heights. Normal vision is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Some work is performed outside and may require exposure to prevailing weather conditions. Working conditions in this position vary with a portion performed in relatively pleasant surroundings and a portion performed on rooftops, in equipment rooms, under buildings, and in confined spaces. Subject to perform work in areas with high noise levels where ear protection is required. Working in very hot and cold environments, poorly ventilated and lighted areas is occasionally required and in some instances work in these conditions is for the duration of the shift. The incumbent may be exposed to fumes, dust, dirt, grease and oil, and is subject to the possibility of scrapes, cuts, bruises, contusions, burns, electric shock, and eye hazards.
