TCAL DMPK has undertaken an initiative to look beyond aspects of traditional drug metabolizing enzyme induction via mediation of PXR, CAR, or AHR nuclear receptors. To assist in this initiative, the requested summer intern will learn in vitro techniques, design and execute studies using human derived hepatocytes to understand mechanism of enzyme induction and apply it to our understanding of human drug metabolizing enzyme induction in relation to clinical studies.
Assist in DMPK initiative, which entails experimentation and generation of in vitro data to retrospectively compare to human pharmacokinetic data from clinical drug-drug interaction studies.
Collate clinical DDI data from literature sources and internal studies to provide understanding of the impact of findings.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Undergraduate student in good academic standing with a focus in pharmacy, pharmaceutical science, or a related biological or chemical science field (Second or Third year students preferred)
Ideal candidate should have an excellent academic record and hands-on laboratory work experience
Some understanding of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of compounds in the human body
Ideal candidate will have good organizational skills, good working knowledge of Excel, and have taken some more advanced mathematics courses and some calculus
Ability to learn how to use digitizing software to translate plasma concentration profiles to exposure and time values. Good written and communications skills are a must to become a part of a global, high functioning team. Knowledge in the Japanese language is a benefit.
Students must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
