This position is part of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) University and Campus Relations Internship Program. The Summer Internship program is a 10-12 week paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience with meaningful work, while developing your skills, and building your network. The internship has an estimated start date of May/June 2018 and an estimated end date of August/September 2018. Summer interns may have the potential to carry on as Year-Round interns, working part-time throughout the school year. Decisions to work as a Year-Round intern will be based upon summer performance, business need, and the interest of the intern.

Examples of what our interns do:
Work together with partners from a variety of teams to support cutting edge projects and initiatives
Analyze, develop, and execute action plans to improve department efficiency and data integrity
Utilize engineering software to evaluate data and provide analysis
Build business acumen by attending meetings and giving presentations
Maintain accurate databases, and provide analysis and evaluation of data
Handling work orders and notifications completed by internal/external partners
Help prepare business documents
Provide scheduling support
Track and update company assets
Perform technical data review and validation
Other duties as assigned
SCE's Transmission & Distribution organizational unit is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining the infrastructure to safely and reliably deliver electricity to SCE's customers throughout our 50,000 square-mile service territory. Our transmission assets deliver power from generating stations to our distribution grid, which brings the electricity to homes and businesses across Southern California.
Opportunities are available in the following areas of Transmission & Distribution:
Asset Management and Operations Support (AM&OS)
Asset Management and Operations Support (AM&OS) optimizes the utilization of assets which will ensure the safe, reliable and affordable delivery of electricity.
Distribution is comprised of the Distribution Construction & Maintenance (DC&M), Distribution Resource Planning & Project Management (DC&M RPPM), and Central Design & Field Accounting (CD&FA) groups. In addition to designing, constructing, and maintaining the electric distribution system, Distribution accurately and compliantly capitalizes plant assets into our rate base. Distribution handles assets of approximately $11.2 billion in current assets, and will lead the construction and ultimate maintenance and operation of an additional $5.8 billion in distribution assets over the next five years.
Fontana, Irvine, Long Beach, Pomona, Redlands, Santa Ana, Santa Monica, Victorville, and Westminster, CA
Engineering provides all transmission and distribution system planning, field engineering support, asset management oversight, network engineering specifications, equipment and apparatus evaluations and standards. They also plan, engineer, and design transmission, substation, and distribution facilities. Engineering also provides metro area telecommunication services for SCE, and also to all types of carriers such as, cable companies, internet service providers and large enterprises, construct fiber optic cables and repair outages for SCE’s telecom network.
Pomona, and Westminster, CA
Electric System Planning
Electric System Planning (ESP) plans and maintains the SCE T&D power grid by providing technical and engineering support for all clients. In addition, ESP continuously evaluates the integrity, reliability, and capability of SCE's electric grid in an effort to find opportunities for improvements which benefit our customers and ratepayers.
Real Properties (RP) leads and handles rights-of-way throughout SCE's 50,000-square-mile service territory. RP handles transactions and support services to lead and safeguard all SCE land and land rights. RP land services include land and rights acquisition, federal permits, survey, mapping, land rights research, relocations, appraisals, and clearing encroachments. RP generates revenue for the company through Secondary Land Use, timber sales, Camp Edison, as well as supporting Carrier Solutions.

Integrated Innovation and Modernization
Integrated Innovation and Modernization (IIM) is responsible for strategically planning and designing the current and future grid. Our diverse organization is comprised of four groups that are always focused on making safety for our employees and customers our top priority. We plan and maintain the SCE T&D power grid by providing technical and engineering support for all clients. In addition, we continuously evaluate the integrity, reliability, and capability of SCE's electric grid in an effort to find opportunities for improvements which benefit our customers and ratepayers. Our innovative vision will position SCE to become a leader in developing a modern, flexible, and sustainable electric grid that is best suited to meet the evolving needs of our customers.

Major Projects Organization
Major Projects Organization (MPO) leads the development and execution of large T&D projects while meeting applicable regulatory requirements (including safety, quality, and environmental) and our responsibilities to the community within budgetary and schedule constraints. Additionally, MPO provides Project Control services to other groups within T&D.
Transmission, Substations, & Operation
Transmission, Substations, & Operation (TS&O) is responsible for all grid operations, substation construction and maintenance, and transmission activities including system performance, reliability, compliance, and emergency response and restoration.

To qualify for this position you must:
Be currently be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in GIS, or Engineering (Civil/Structural, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, or closely related field) at an accredited institution with a graduation date of December 2018 or later.
Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
Have experience using MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Have strong oral, and written interpersonal skills
Proven ability to interface effectively and collaborate with peers, clients, management, and other organizations
Proven history of a self-starter, critical thinker, and problem solver
Demonstrated ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices
Desired skills in any of the following:
Power Systems Engineering Experience
Experience with Microsoft Access, SharePoint, or Visio
Demonstrated experience generating reports using SAP
Demonstrated experience extracting data from operation systems and databases for production analysis purposes.
Demonstrated experience programming experience with Python, VBA, R, or SQL
Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD, PSPICE, LTSPICE, or Matlab
Involvement with student clubs and organizations
