Description

BASIC DESCRIPTION:

The Industrial Systems Group is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Electrical Engineer (Power Electronics) intern focused on developing hardware solutions for new products, and identifying opportunities for improvement on existing products. This position requires an individual with the willingness to learn and the technical skills to understand leading technologies, and the flexibility to adapt quickly to different projects as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Primary responsibilities include design, development and support of switch mode power supplies for Industrial welding equipment; including welding power sources, wire feeders and related accessories.

  • Direct involvement in all hardware design and product development activities including; system architecture, circuit analysis/modeling/simulation, component selection, schematic capture, pcb layout planning and support, prototyping and debug, qualification testing, troubleshooting, reliability and third-party compliance testing, documentation, and engineering support throughout product launch.

  • Diagnose and correct technical issues arising from engineering, lab, reliability and third party certification testing.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working towards earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical engineering.

  • Some training in power electronic devices, topologies (half bridge, full bridge, buck, boost, flyback, forward, etc.), and controls.

  • A basic understanding of mixed analog and digital circuit designs.

  • Experience with circuit simulation and control modeling (PSpice, LTspice, MATLAB, etc.).

  • Experience with PCB design software.

  • Knowledge with test and measurement equipment, including: Knowledge of power and grounding schemes, Use of Oscilloscopes, Voltage/Current probes, Impedance meters, Multimeters, Function generators, and other standard lab equipment.

  • Basic understanding of magnetic components.

  • Knowledge of insulation requirements between circuits (materials, creepage, clearance, dielectric strength).

  • Knowledge of thermal management, electronics packaging and design for manufacturing.

  • Familiarity with CSA, CE, IEC, NEC, and UL specifications.

  • This person must be able to work effectively as an individual and in a team environment.

  • Candidate must be an aggressive self-starter with solid communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Limited travel may be required.
