As a Purchasing intern, you work with the Construction Production team to improve the supply chain, balance a budget, and manage your own projects and assignments.

Roles You'll Play


  • Interact with Construction professionals to build an in-depth understanding of real-world procurement methods and challenges

  • Deepen your understanding of supply chain management, renovation projects, procurement, and product development

  • Learn how Cortland’s philosophy, principles, and policies guide the conduct of our projects and operations and help us steer clear of regulatory violations


  • Assist with a wide range of tasks — everything from financial analysis and internal invoicing to vendor solicitation and relationship management

  • Work with various teams and communities within Cortland to understand their purchasing needs

  • Lead your own projects, as assigned, and present your results to the team

  • Research and recommend process improvements to drive efficiency and overall effectiveness


  • Participate in as many formal and informal development activities as you can, including “Lunch with the Leader” forums

  • Ask your colleagues on the Construction team, including senior executives, about our industry and the typical (and not-so-typical) career tracks at Cortland

  • Broaden your understanding of our company by reaching out to team members in other functional areas, such as Supply Chain, Architecture/Interior Design, Investments, Talent, IT, Facilities and Services, Operations, and Marketing

Your Building Blocks of Success

  • Full-time college student, preferably with a construction, building science, engineering, architecture/design, or similar program major

  • Demonstrated interest in a property management career

  • Terrific communication, presentation, problem-solving, time management, and decision-making skills

  • High level of adaptability; driven to continually grow and develop

  • Working knowledge of the due diligence process and associated deliverables

  • Strong work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Bluebeam/CAD
