Zurich is currently looking for an VP International Surety forour growing Surety team in Jersey City office.

As a member of Zurich's Surety Underwriting Team you will enjoythe opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills.Specifically, you will underwrite and analyze new and renewal business withindelegated authority levels of highly complex assignments, utilizing The ZurichWay of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignmentsof higher technical complexity ensuring a high level service to customers. Thisis a market facing position and the successful candidate will have demonstratedability to work closely with internal and external stakeholders in thedevelopment and execution of sales-related activities while leading successfulinternational surety-related sales initiatives.

High Level Influencer ExternallyFocused - The job’s core deliverables rely on influencing or negotiating withexternal contacts on strategic impact matters. Relationships typically involvepersuading or countering opposition, often with vendor representatives orsenior management level customers.

Our VP International Surety is responsible for:

  • Working under minimal direction, underwrite and analyze new and renewalbusiness within delegated authority levels of highly complex assignments.

  • Demonstrate specializedknowledge and expertise in international surety products and industry.

  • Coordinates sales forecasting, planning, and budgeting processes used withinthe Surety organization.

  • Aligns and coordinates Surety sales activities within Surety and with otherfunctions and stakeholders within the wider Zurich organization.

  • Proactively identifiesopportunities for sales process improvement. Works closely with Suretymanagement to identify and prioritize opportunities forimprovement.

  • Demonstrate specialized knowledge and expertise in international suretyproducts and industry.

  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws andregulations, and rating manuals.

  • Work at the highest authority limits on assignments utilizing the highestdegree of technical complexity and coordination. Develop and maintainrelationships with distributors (agents & brokers) in support of businessretention and acquisition and works with customers and distributors (agents& brokers) to determine their insurance related needs and providesolutions.

  • Support the organization's sales culture by being a Help Point for agents,brokers and customers.

  • Contribute to the development of propositions. Provide technical guidance,assistance, and training to lower level underwriters.

  • Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in theUnderwriting or Market Facing area


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in theClaims or Underwriting Support area


  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 ormore years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area


  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 ormore years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area


  • Experience with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Advanced knowledge In-depth knowledge of Contract, Commercial andInternational Surety line/s of business and legal and regulatory guidelines andpractice of international surety line/s of business

  • Experience with sales processes from forecasting throughpipeline development.

  • Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/localfiling regulations and guidelines

  • Bilingual (Spanish or Portuguese a plus)

  • Ability to effectively assess risk

  • Ability to work in a team-based environment

  • Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business

  • Strong presentation skills
