The mission of the Michigan Department of Corrections is to create a safer Michigan by holding offenders accountable while promoting their success. /ol The Correctional Facilities Administration is responsible for the state's prisons, including Special Alternative Incarceration. There are over 30 prisons in the state of Michigan. The state secure facilities include a diverse offender population and are categorized into different security levels. These experiences are available to students in order to enhance their academic learning experience. All applicants must be academically enrolled. We have a variety of internship opportunities to experience in our correctional facilities (prisons) including: Criminal Justice: Correction Officers, Custody Supervisors, Prison Counselors, and more. Education: GED/Academic/Trade Instructors, Librarian, Employment Counselors, and more Maintenance: Skilled Trades, HVAC, Plumbing, and more Business Administration: Human Resources, Administration, Clerical, Management, and more These internships will help the student develop competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities, and motivation) needed for a career in Corrections through daily interaction with staff and offenders. Intern Responsibilities/Projects include: liAll interns will be assigned an intern mentor/li liInterns will be responsible for reviewing policy and procedures for the Michigan Department of Corrections/li liInternships will include standard day to day activities with supervisor/mentor/li liAcademic experiences will include 1 or more primary projects related to your academic studies/li liIntern will participate in special assignments as directed by the intern's supervisor Required Education and Experience/li /ul All majors are accepted and internships are open to Undergraduates and Graduates.
