Design engineering is fully accountable for designing and developing new products, redesigning existing products, overseeing the prototype delivery and testing of products that meet the form, fit, function and quality of internal and external customers. The goal of the Mechanical Engineering Internship program is to provide an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering student to learn from real world design engineering experience while performing the duties of a design engineer. The program is designed to expose the intern to a representative variety of tasks typical to a mechanical engineering role while contributing to business goals and success of the team.
Principle Duties: Conceptualize and Design new products, tools, components, or features to meet customer specifications in a timely, thorough, concise manner. Also perform engineering analysis to verify form, fit, and functional requirements are met.
Knowledge of basic automotive componentry and systems, understanding of common manufacturing processes, and practical knowledge of problem solving techniques.
Good written and verbal communication skills, Proficiency in PC skills; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), and CAD (preferably Solidworks)
Self-starter with the ability to work with a cross-functional team, ability to handle multiple projects.
Required Education / Experience
Must be a current student in BSME program and at least Sophomore level.
Preferred Education / Experience
Preferred to have some experience with design engineering or a manufacturing environment. Assembly, mechanical skills, or experience with metal fabrication also a plus.
