Description

Primary objective: The intern will be directly involved in the development of a standardized tool for preparation of EPA application for importation of new chemicals into the United States under the Toxic Substance Chemical Act (TSCA) program. At the completion of this project, the intern will have a deep understanding of US EPA TSCA regulations, toxicological principles, human exposure calculations, and common chemistries associated with the semiconductor and electronics industry. The intern will also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with other EHS programs such as industrial air, water, waste, hazardous chemicals and Cal OSHA compliance.

  • Work with EHS team to understand our current TSCA application process and help to identify areas for improvement

  • Work with EHS and other JSR departments to document TSCA application information

  • Develop a new standardized template for collecting information used to develop comprehensive TSCA applications

Additional objectives:

Complete a regulatory audit checklist for an additional environmental or safety program of the intern’s choosing. Learn and understand the regulations behind the environmental and/or safety program.

The intern’s mentor will meet at least weekly to review progress and set up collaborations with other departments. The projects are designed to maximize learning about chemical regulations in the US, as the intern will have to learnand trainothers on the processes.
